WordPress Peace of Mind From NgageContent
Keeping your site healthy and secure so you can focus on your business
The world wide web used to be a place of cat videos and simple HTML pages that said to give your business a call. Today, it’s a central storefront for your business, and very likely the first storefront a potential customer or client will visit.
Frazzled by the need to maintain your site and follow all the security and compliance rules? We get it.
We’ve built more than 150 WordPress sites at NgageContent, and we’ve worked hard to simplify the process to keep your site compliant, secure, and healthy. We’ve lovingly dubbed our support the Peace of Mind package to make you feel at ease.
We can handle all of this for you other than the policy creation. Yes, you should consult an attorney to make sure there are no other legal issues for your specific business. But once that’s done, you will truly have peace of mind that your site is compliant and healthy.
Want the nitty gritty details on the tooling and services? It’s below. Or, you can reach out to us to discuss this further.
AccessiBe is a paid WordPress plugin that helps you comply with ADA and WCAG compliance. Simply, it automates accessibility on your website so you don’t have to do a major overhaul.
BlogVault is a malware scanning plugin that helps you identify threats to your website before you get hacked. It also helps find issues that exist on your site after a hack and lets web developers see issues with tooling and plugins used across your site.
Less delicious than it sounds, this compliance tool is built around consent management to help you with GDPR and CCPA laws (read more on those below, if you like legal speak!)
Your website has to live somewhere. We handle that with a server dedicated to your site in DigitalOcean. A dedicated box helps with uptime and also prevents security issues that big-time hosting companies run into with shared hosting boxes. Critically, our managed hosting also comes with uptime monitoring - we nearly always know about an issue with your site before we do - and regular backups of your site. There is a supreme peace of mind that comes with knowing that if you accidentally take down your site we can have it back up in minutes!
Our managed hosting also includes your SSL certificate. What’s that? So glad you asked!
An SSL certificate encrypts data transmitted between a website and its visitors, preventing unauthorized parties from intercepting sensitive information like passwords or credit card details. It also verifies the website's identity, showing users they're connected to the legitimate site rather than an impostor. When active, browsers display a padlock icon and "https://" in the address bar. Aren’t you glad you asked?!
Probably the best known tool in our kit, HubSpot is a marketing and sales platform that is used for everything from analytics to a CRM. Critically for our use case, we prefer to use HubSpot forms on your website to handle contact management and ensure user data is in a third-party system, not stored locally to your WordPress site. It’s much better to let HubSpot handle user data protection handle user data protection than you!
Apart from having the best name of any tool we use, Ninja Forms is an alternative to HubSpot to provide you with easy third-party forms for your WordPress site. It’s great for sites that need to take in user data and even payment information.
Shopify is probably the best-known website builder for e-commerce. It also plays well with WordPress as an add-on to your site. If online purchases are a critical part of your business, using Shopify to handle payment information and customer details is a great way to protect your data and handle transactions smoothly.

AI Policy
Are you using artificial intelligence in your business? Does this lead to content, images, charts, etc. from AI going on your site? If so, you better let the world know that this is non-human work and, ideally, that you had a real human police it to make sure it’s accurate. AI can be a great time saver on many things, but if you are using it to generate content of some sort that is wrong… uh-oh. Make an internal policy about how to use AI for the web. Post that policy on your site so people know how you’re using it.
Privacy Policy
A privacy policy explains how your website collects, uses and protects visitor data. If you are collecting any user data, there are laws (see below) protecting site visitors. They are at the very least able to ask you how you use data and, in some parts of the world, can demand proof that you delete their data if asked. This is one area where you may need some legal help to craft your policy. But whatever you come up with, put it on your site to give visitors comfort.
Website Maintenance and Monitoring
A healthy site is one that is maintained. Like a fitness program to keep you in shape, regular web maintenance from our team gives your site the workout it needs. This includes updating plugins, checking the core site health, updating the instance of WordPress to the most current version whenever possible, and verifying your backups are stored and usable. Maintenance also includes testing of your forms and an update email from us highlighting the work that was performed. For sites under two years old we recommend at least quarterly web maintenance. If your site is older than that, we recommend monthly.
Legal Speak and Considerations
We consider a lot of factors to protect you when building and maintaining your site - but you should talk with your lawyer to make sure you are covered!!! Here are a few things we focus on:
Accessibility - This language is taken directly from the AccessiBe website and it’s enough to spur us into action: In 2018, the DOJ clarified that websites are considered places of public accommodation and must comply with ADA Title III. In 2022, the DOJ reaffirmed it and recommended WCAG 2.1 AA as the best practice.
California's landmark Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and its 2023 amendment (CPRA) empower consumers with comprehensive rights over their personal data, including the ability to access, delete, correct, and limit the sharing of information collected by businesses, while requiring companies to comply with these requests and maintain transparent privacy practices.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), implemented in 2018, stands as the world's most stringent privacy and security law, applying to any organization handling EU residents' data and imposing hefty fines for violations, signaling Europe's commitment to protecting personal data in an increasingly digital world.
Going forward, data integrity and user consent seems like a growing issue. More laws are likely coming, so our highest recommendation is to get in front of it and play by the rules today as best you can!
In the long run, you’ll also have a healthier site. We’ve built WordPress sites that are now 10 years old because we’ve kept them maintained over the years and followed along with new web rules to make sure they are productive for our clients.
Need help? We get it, that’s a lot. We’re happy to work with you to make sure your site is healthy and secure. Reach out to us using the form below.
